Museum with Metromover - Frost Science Museum - Downtown Miami
Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science
For accessible culture, head to the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (61 NE 41st St.), offering year-round free admission to cutting-edge contemporary art in the Design District. This three-story museum provides an important international platform for emerging artists, with free daily tours at noon and timed tickets recommended for guaranteed entry. Open Wednesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
Just west on the Florida International University campus, the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum (10975 SW 17th Street) maintains permanent free admission to its collection of more than 6000 works of art spanning cultures and time periods. This architectural gem offers curator tours every third Tuesday at noon, making world-class art accessible to all. Open Tuesday-Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Budget-conscious local visitors can maximize museum experiences through the Miami-Dade Public Library Museum Pass Program. Library cardholders can check out free family passes (up to four people) for premium attractions, including Zoo Miami, Frost Science Museum, PAMM and Vizcaya. Every third Friday, Viernes Culturales (Cultural Fridays) transforms Little Havana's Calle Ocho between 14th and 17th Avenues into a vibrant street festival starting at noon. Don’t miss the free Little Havana walking tour with historian Dr. Paul George at 7:00 p.m.
The monthly Lincoln Road Art Walk (between Washington Ave. and Meridian Ave.) features gallery openings, artist demonstrations and street performances on the second Saturday of each month from 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.
Museums throughout Miami offer special free admission days. PAMM (1103 Biscayne Blvd.) opens free every second Saturday with family programming from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bank of America cardholders enjoy one free museum visit on the first full weekend of every month at participating locations, including Miami Children's Museum.
