The heart of Miami's beach culture beats strongest along the two-mile-long South Beach (from South Pointe Park north to 23rd Street). This legendary shoreline combines soft, white sand with the world's largest collection of Art Deco architecture. Step onto the sand and you're instantly part of the scene—volleyball games unfold against pastel hotel backdrops while lifeguards perch in candy-colored towers.
The beach features year-round lifeguard coverage and relatively calm waters protected by offshore reefs. Beach equipment rentals are readily available, while the area around 10th Street offers the most energy with beachside bars.

The wide beach connects seamlessly with Lummus Park, a 10-block stretch with palm-lined walkways, playgrounds and people-watching opportunities.

Dusk - Crandon Park - Key Biscayne
Cross the Rickenbacker Causeway and feel Miami's urban energy dissolves into something serene. At Crandon Park (4000 Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne), children's squeals echo across two miles of sand as they discover shallow sandbars that appear at low tide. This top-ranked beach reveals dual personalities—kiteboarders soar across northern waters while the south offers glassy calm perfect for toddlers. Plus, it’s accessible: beach wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come basis.

The historic carousel at the Family Amusement Center spins to nostalgic melodies, while guided Bear Cut Preserve walks reveal hidden mangrove tunnels. Pack a picnic for the abundant tables and grills onsite.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park - Key Biscayne
At Key Biscayne's southern tip, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (1200 S. Crandon Blvd.) feels like stepping into old Florida. Here, 1.25 miles of beautiful beach stretch beneath the 1825 lighthouse—Miami-Dade's oldest standing structure. Climb the 109 spiral steps for breathtaking panoramas where Biscayne Bay meets the Atlantic. Note: Children must be at least 42” tall and able to independently climb.
A six-mile offshore reef creates gentle waves perfect for swimming, while walking trails wind through native coastal vegetation. The park's history includes its role as a departure point for escaped slaves heading to the Bahamas via the Underground Railroad.

Established in 1945 as a beach for African Americans, this 82-acre park now serves as a testament to civil rights history while offering gorgeous beaches, mountain biking trails and peaceful picnic areas overlooking Biscayne Bay.
