On Jan. 8 Baywatch alum Nicole Eggert, 51, revealed to People that she was diagnosed with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer in early December. Eggert will need surgery to remove the cancer and said she is waiting to determine when chemotherapy and radiation will start.
After 24 seasons and six Super Bowl wins, coach Bill Belichick, 71, and the New England Patriots announced a mutual parting of ways on Jan. 11. The team introduced Jerod Mayo, 37, as his successor a day later. • On Jan. 10 the University of Alabama announced the retirement of coach Nick Saban, 72, after 17 seasons and six NCAA football championships. Former University of Washington Huskies coach Kalen DeBoer, 49, will replace him.
Crime
Food Network star Darnell Ferguson, 36, was arrested on Jan. 9 in Kentucky on felony charges of burglary and strangulation in connection with an alleged attack on his estranged wife Tatahda Ferguson. His lawyer told People that the couple had a “disagreement.” He was arraigned the following day and released after posting a $10,000 bond and pleading not guilty. He is also facing charges of assault, terroristic threatening, menacing, criminal mischief and theft and receipt of a stolen credit or debit card.
Actress Joyce Randolph, who played Trixie Norton on the classic sitcom The Honeymooners, died on Jan. 13 at her home in New York City. She was 99.
