A Chat with Regent’s New President
By Paloma Villaverde de Rico
As a woman, it was wonderful to see the news come into my inbox that Andrea DeMarco had been appointed president of
Regent Seven Seas Cruises
. DeMarco is the first woman to take the helm of the cruise line, whose history spans three decades, and for her, it’s an “absolute honor.
“Representation is important, and we certainly connect with people we can relate to. One of the things I love most about this opportunity is I get to interact with so many people in the organization, whether it’s people on board the ship or in the corporate offices, and what I hear from so many of the talented women we have in the company is how seeing a woman rise to a leadership position has inspired them. That’s something I don’t take very lightly.”
DeMarco also knows full well that she has been put in charge of precious cargo, and she’s passionate for what lies ahead: “I’m the luckiest person in the world who gets to lead the world’s leading luxury cruise line.”

Regent has grown to this elite status over its 30-year history, says DeMarco, due to “a lot of effort from a number of people throughout the organization and from our travel partners who have supported us, and I can’t wait to build on this. I have a great foundation to work from and I can’t wait to take this incredible success and take the company to the next level.”
The cruise line’s travel partners, in fact, are key to the line’s continued success, she points out. “At the end of the day,” she says, “our success depends on our travel partners’ success and one of my key priorities is to continue to invest in our travel partners.
“I think travel partners and their expertise and how they assist in matching the right cruise line to their clients and holding their hand throughout the process is key in this environment.”
And she reminds travel advisors that what makes Regent unique in the cruise landscape is its “unrivalled experience. Yes, that’s our tagline, but it’s really about having an experience where everything is taken care of, it’s luxurious, you get to
see multiple places in one vacation and it’s all-inclusive. There’s no better experience out there.”
