“When you see a shooting star, the adventure inside your heart…is pulling you close to where the future starts. The magic that’s in your eyes…traditions we build for life…year after year the memories fill the sky. Everybody welcome home…to your home away from home. Where magic never ends…with family and friends. Making memories so strong. We believe in somewhere new…a place where all your dreams come true. Together we can grow…let the whole world know…where we are is right…right where we belong.”
Words that have long lived in the hearts and souls of the most magical community on Earth have now been put to music with “Where We Belong (Welcome Home),” a new Disney Vacation Club theme song created with Members in mind.
“What started as an idea for an official song for Disney Vacation Club Member Celebrations aboard Disney Cruise Line ships quickly became something much bigger,” said Disney Vacation Club Marketing Strategy Manager Scott Spongberg, who spearheaded the project with Disney Live Entertainment Music Producer Dan Stamper. “Cast Members who’ve been part of Disney Vacation Club for decades helped shape the song’s lyrics as a love letter to the magic of Membership. And Dan Stamper and the amazing team at Disney Live Entertainment turned those sparks of inspiration into the kind of music you’d expect to hear in a park filled with fireworks. The first time I heard the demo track, I got chills.”
Among the longstanding Cast Members consulting on the song’s lyrics was Disney Files Magazine Editor Ryan March, who spoke to the song’s potential to evolve in the years ahead.
“It’s fun to imagine artists reinventing this song through the years in styles as unique as our resorts,” he said. “I’d love to hear, for example, a Hawaiian version inspired by Aulani, a classical French or Italian version inspired by Disney’s Riviera Resort or a Broadway version performed by stars aboard a Member Cruise. While we don’t have anything to announce yet, I can tell you that these ideas are gaining traction, and that the song’s debut version is likely only the beginning.”
