Skills for Rewilding was our landmark three-year project to help 15 people from diverse backgrounds pursue a career in rewilding. The project ended this summer, with the final group of trainees heading off to new pastures - with the exception of Heather, who we are delighted to say will be staying with us as a seasonal nursery worker.
The popularity of the project was incredible, with more than 1,000 people registering their interest to take part in the programme across its three-year run. Skills for Rewilding revealed the significant demand within Scotland’s workforce to find practical ways to help nature and the climate. We hope to continue providing unique opportunities for skills development at the Rewilding Centre in years to come.
We are going to deeply miss having the trainees here, particularly at Dundreggan where they brought a real sense of excitement and possibility to our work - influencing our own perspectives and ideas on how we can better rewild landscapes and inspire people in the process.
We would like to thank every single trainee for their commitment, enthusiasm and hard work.
This year’s group sat down with us at Dundreggan before the end of the project to reflect on their time at Trees for Life. We hope you enjoy hearing what they had to say.
Skills for Rewilding was made possible thanks to generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
