Another successful Golf Fit Challenge is in the books! Congratulations to all the competitors who rose to the occasion and pushed themselves in the month of September to get out and exercise more, including playing more rounds of golf. We hope this contest inspired you to continue to make golf a part of your weekly fitness routine.
More than 145 TGA Members stepped up during the month of September to track their steps and receive bonus points for every round of golf they posted to their GHIN accounts. Collectively, the group logged more than 10 million steps and posted 262 rounds of golf to GHIN.
Extra special congrats go out to Austin’s Barry Gibbons, who won the Golf Fit Challenge 2.0 with a total of 1,424,394 points. A bit of a golf celebrity, Gibbons racked up 57 rounds of golf in September, which amounted to 570,000 bonus points in addition to the 854,394 steps he logged.
Playing tons of golf is nothing new for Gibbons, who in 2016 entered the Guinness Book of World Records for breaking the most rounds of golf played in a year with 878. He said the TGA’s Golf Fit Challenge was right in his wheelhouse.
“I have a bit of a history of taking golf to an extreme,” Gibbons said. “Playing a lot of golf is fun for me and fairly routine. I am pretty competitive, so I had to go for it to see if I could still push myself fairly hard. I always appreciate a good challenge, and it’s interesting to see how I can stack up against others when it comes to playing a lot of golf.”
For his efforts, Gibbons won a year of free entries into the TGA’s Fun Golf Series to, as well as a free spot for himself and a teammate in the 2019 Texas Shamble.
“Golf is an incredible game,” he said. “It’s hugely challenging every time out, a great way to both make and spend time with friends, and it’s good for one’s physical condition – particularly if you leave the cart at the clubhouse.”
Bob Davies of Corpus Christi took second place with 1,035,230 total points and won a Bushnell Golf Smartwatch. Davies actually logged more steps than Gibbons with 945,230. Davies added 90,000 bonus points for the nine rounds of golf he posted to GHIN in September.
Trey Wesson of Fort Worth came in third place with 813,027 total points and walked away with a TGA Swag bag full of Peter Millar shirts, Imperial hats and TGA-logoed golf balls.
Thanks to everyone who participated and be on the lookout for more fitness-related contests coming your way soon.
