Female golf participation has exploded in the U.S. during the past seven years, according to the National Golf Foundation. Currently there are about 11.5 million women and girls who play golf compared to about 8 million in 2014.
That’s an increase of 43%!
Golfers in the U.S. continue to be predominantly male, however, that is changing. With this latest surge of women playing the game, the ratio of male-to-female participants is 69:31.
That’s much more balanced than in years past. For example, in the 6- to 17-year-old demographic, only 14% of those golfers were girls back in 1986.
Today, more than 33% of 6- to 17-year-olds who play golf are female.
