It might be hard to believe, but the U.S. has seen growth in golf participation for five consecutive years. The trend began in 2018, when total golf participation was about 33,500,000, according to the National Golf Foundation. Last year the number was approximately 41,100,000.
About 25,600,000 of those golfers played traditional green-grass golf courses; the rest were engaged with the game at off-course venues, such as Topgolf, driving ranges, and the like. Among the larger group who played on traditional courses in 2022, more than 37% of them (or 9.6 million) were 34 years of age or younger. Almost 13% of them (3.3 million) considered themselves as beginners.
