University of Texas All-American Kaitlyn Papp drilled home an uphill 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win Low Amateur honors at last year’s U.S. Women’s Open at Champions Golf Club in Houston. It wasn’t the final chapter in the 22-year-old graduate student’s celebrated amateur career, but it was certainly another notable entry in a story that has been building in excitement for years.
Papp began her steady ascent to the top of the amateur ranks as a teenager in Austin. Her skill, dedication and strong work ethic has made her a winner at every level, from local, state and national championships to international team competitions.
As the end of her amateur career draws to a close, Papp said she still has “unfinished business.” Winning another or several more major titles wouldn’t be a surprise ending, but it would be a satisfying conclusion. It would also be a perfect setup for a sequel to the start of her professional career.
