Dear Colleagues,
I have served as the Chair of Urology at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine for 23 years. Our full-time department is comprised of over 20 academically committed fellowship-trained urologists who are committed to excellence in patient care, research, and education. In 2016, our department ranked in the top 10 by US News and World Report. I believe one reason for our ascent is our commitment to postgraduate education. Over the past decade, over 1000 urologists have attended at least one postgraduate course sponsored by the Department of Urology at NYU School of Medicine. Today, we offer four annual postgraduate courses: Advances in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (April ), Advances in Prostate Imaging, Detection and Minimally Invasive Ablative Treatment of Prostate Cancer (June), Advanced Multispecialty Robotic Surgery (October), and Surgical, Pharmacological and Technological Advances in Urology (December). There is no other urology department in the country that has made this level of commitment to postgraduate urology education. Why don’t you consider registering for one of these courses in the upcoming year?
To further advance our educational mission, it is my pleasure to introduce a new section to Reviews in Urology: Case of the Month. These cases will provide a very brief review of the patient history, laboratory and imaging evaluation, and management along with a few key references. The cases are not designed to be fascinomas rarely seen even in tertiary centers. Rather, the cases will reflect what you see in clinical practice with management “pearls.” Owing to the diverse expertise of our faculty, the cases will encompass urologic oncology, female pelvic medicine, neurourology, endourology, nephrolithiasis, pediatric urology, infertility, erectile dysfunction, benign diseases of the prostate, urethral structures, gender reassignment and more. We plan to include three Cases of the Month per quarterly issue of the journal.
I am very proud of our urology faculty at NYU. Case of the Month provides the opportunity to showcase my team and provide a valuable educational program for you, the readership of Reviews in Urology.
Wishing all a happy, healthy, and peaceful 2017!
