As we reflect on the first half of 2025, one thing is clear: LUGPA is delivering extraordinary value to our members through robust, relevant, engaging education. Our in-person and virtual programs have brought together leaders from across the urology landscape to learn, collaborate, and shape our specialty’s future.
If you didn’t already know, each LUGPA program is heavily reimbursed for our members. That’s right: LUGPA reimburses your airfare, hotel, and registration and even provides a few meals, beverages, and snacks. These premium meetings—a core benefit of membership—are offered at no charge to you.
I’m sure you’ve seen these meetings promoted and summarized in our monthly newsletter, News Stream. Whether it was the Global Prostate Cancer Congress in Sun Valley, Idaho; the Urology Resident Summit in Orlando, Florida; our Houston, Texas, and Boston, Massachusetts, regional meetings; or the focused Prostate Cancer Academy and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Academy, these events provide top-tier content, critical insights, and unmatched networking.
Our Global Prostate Cancer Congress in January delivered rich clinical content and a deeply personal fireside chat, which offered a moving perspective on patient and caregiver experiences in advanced prostate cancer. Our Medlive online webinars helped administrators navigate reimbursement and workflow changes and gave LUGPA members clear, actionable strategies to integrate novel clinical therapies, sometimes offering continuing medical education credit along the way. At our record-breaking Resident Summit and Job Fair, residents gained crucial insights into contracts and career planning while practices made meaningful recruitment connections. In Houston, our regional meeting highlighted the value of expanding ancillary services. Practical sessions led by Dr Benjamin Lowentritt and Dave Carpenter empowered attendees with strategies to improve care and grow revenue, underscoring how LUGPA events deliver not just education but real operational value.
Through our relationship with Specialty Networks, we offer the annual Prostate Cancer Academy, which explores medical breakthroughs and treatment approvals for all stages of prostate cancer through interactive lectures and case-based panel discussions. If you attended our ASC Academy, you know that we offer separate learning tracks to benefit attendees who are considering developing an ASC as well as those attendees who already have an ASC.
If you’ve ever wondered where your LUGPA dues go, just attend 1 of these meetings and you will understand LUGPA’s value. Our educational offerings, combined with our advocacy work in Washington, DC, are central to LUGPA’s mission to enable your practice to survive these turbulent times.
But here’s the thing: You, our members, have to meet us halfway. These programs are designed for you, but they work only if you take the initiative to show up, participate, and engage with us. Your presence not only strengthens your practice but also deepens the collective strength of our entire LUGPA community.
As we continue through 2025, I encourage you to seize these opportunities. Don’t leave value on the table. Come to the meetings. Bring your team. Take full advantage of what membership offers. Check out our website at www.lugpa.org for even more resources available to members.
We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far—and even more excited about what’s ahead.
