Grow Careers Scotland is back again at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with another day packed full of horticultural careers inspiration. This is the event for you to hear from experienced professionals and chat with many organisations across Scotland employing people in horticulture and gardening. The event is for anyone considering a career in horticulture whether you are already studying towards a qualification or are just nurturing the seed of a career change. Tickets on sale soon here.
Spend a day celebrating Scotland’s Orchards with a series of talks from the likes of David Atkinson from Falkland Estate and Colin Wren from National Trust for Scotland. Afterwards, enjoy a light lunch and guided walks around the Megginch Orchards, home to over 1400 trees, led by owner Catherine Drummond-Herdman. The Caley is asking for as many members as possible to help them complete some essential gardening tasks during their Dig Day. This is a great opportunity as a member to meet fellow horticulture lovers and swap gardening tips, along with enjoying some fresh air. The group will be meeting in the courtyard and ask that you wear weather-appropriate clothing.
Save the date for next year's Scone Palace Garden Fair to celebrate the best of Scottish gardening where our country's top plant nurseries, garden centres, and gardening societies, will gather on the main lawns under the backdrop of the historic Scone Palace, the Crowning Place of the Scottish Kings. Alongside some marvellous makers featuring garden related crafts, outdoor furniture specialists, representatives from the horticultural colleges, the garden presenters from BBC gardening programme 'Beechgrove', you will find inspiration in the show gardens in the Scottish Garden Design Competition.
Access to the vast gardens and grounds surrounding Scone Palace is included in the price so take the chance to go for a woodland walk and visit the giant conifers in the Victorian Pinetum, tour the Kitchen Garden, enjoy the recently opened Walled Garden, or get lost in the Murray Star Maze.
