READERS' GARDENS
"My cauliflowers! Actually ended up with 4! I know its not a lot but as someone who can’t grow beetroot I take these for the win. Only been gardening for 4 years since lockdown."
Marie-Thérèse Hayes, Rhu near Helensburgh
"Potatoes, carrots and onions plus garlic all great, tenderstem and sprouting broccoli still going strong, peas, beetroot all pickled . Rhubarb added to chutneys and crumbles."
Amanda Keeble, Isle of Skye
"My outdoor grown bush tomatoes, 'Red Alert' and 'Maskotka', are doing pretty well although later than normal. This will be my second lot to be made into passata once I pick the ripe ones. I have one tall variety and I don't think I'll get any ripe fruits from it this year even though it was sown at the same time and planted in same planter as the bush plants.
"I'm also really happy with this outdoor grown 'Mini Munch' cucumber. It was only sown 24th June (inside) after others rotted in the rain. It's only 2ft tall at the moment and producing like mad."
Jenny Morgan, Arbroath, NE Coast
"Picked at the allotment. Tatties have been great this year along with the beetroot, onions, and shallots. Cauliflowers have arrived albeit smaller than I would have liked. Carrot germination has been poor although I think most did germinate but we're nibbled by slugs. Tomatoes were about two to three weeks behind but ripening well now."
Martin Toward, Aberdeen
"Potatoes are great but I think most successful has to go to beetroot this year. I tried for years to grow them and only been successful this year and last - they love a new no dig bed it seems!
"Carrots are also being successful for once, and the colder weather is meaning the lettuce hasn't shot."
Helen Mclachlan, Kintyre, Argyll, west coast by the sea.
"Grabbed dinner on the way into the house! Carrots, golden beets, salad onions, and sweet corn was on the menu with grilled chicken. This year's potatoes, onions, and garlic also did very well. Pumpkins, peas, and courgettes not so well."
Barbara Ann Easton, outside of Stirling
