JUSTIN JOHNSON
Director of Marketing & Communications, Lancaster Chamber
Originally from Philadelphia, Justin began his studies in graphic design and art at the Community College of Philadelphia before transferring to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts to focus on fine arts and drawing. He spent most of his career in education administration, both in higher education and then K-12, in Philadelphia, York, and Lancaster County. Justin is currently the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Lancaster Chamber.
As an artist, most of Justin’s work is dedicated to still-life; however, landscapes have become a subject that he explores on occasion. He is currently concentrating on a medium called metalpoint, an early 14th & 15th technique that uses metal to draw on prepared surfaces. This exploration of this medium, as well as his in-depth investigation of stiff life painting, started at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. As an avid reader, his work has always been deeply influenced by literature or spoken word. His drawings and paintings are often inspired by quotes from a book or thematic concepts from the whole book itself. The final compositions are not always literal adaptations, but rather arrangements of objects and forms that capture my reactions or responses to the narrative.
