Some commonly asked questions are below…
Q: Why can’t I pinch to zoom the articles?
A: Zooming for articles is not a function of the PageRaft platform—the platform is designed to eliminate the need for any zoom on regular text. There is a tap to zoom feature for static images and advertising. Images within slideshows can be zoomed in on as well.
Q: I’m reviewing the staging link, why doesn’t search work?
A: Search is not functional in the staging link; it will be activated when the book is live.
Q: Can I search across all issues of my publication?
A: At this time PageRaft’s internal search functionality only returns results within the issue being read.
Q: When I click on a search result, I’m not taken to the exact location of the result. Why?
A: PageRaft’s internal search functionality will take you to the beginning of the article in which the result appears, but it does not scroll down to the result itself.
Q: Can I print from PageRaft?
A: To print, simply click on the print icon. Only one article will print at a time, similar to a website page.
Q: Can readers download a PDF version of the PageRaft book?
A: A PDF can be output from any PageRaft article using the browser’s print feature. Rather than printing a physical paper version, the PDF option can be selected and a file will be saved to the user’s computer. There is also an option to download a pdf if you choose to have this feature. We require the full issue pdf be hosted by the publisher and that a url is provided to Nxtbook for use. Nxtbook will use that url to create a download option in the toolbar where readers can access the pdf file for download. The download icon is not available in the toolbar if no download url is listed.
Q: Can the article titles in the Contents interface be changed?
A: Article titles in the Contents interface are automatically generated from the article names as they are entered in the PageRaft CMS. We can change the article name in the Contents interface by changing the name of the article, but the two must be the same.
Q: We have footnotes. How can we make sure they appear as they do in print?
A: There are no “pages” in PageRaft, due to the responsive nature of the platform; therefore footnotes would not appear throughout an article, but only at the end (bottom) of it. For an additional charge we can jump to the specific footnote in the article by using a link on the reference in the text.
Q: What are your full page/fractional ad specs?
A: There are no fixed ad specs as there are for print, however, we do have several recommendations for advertising within the PageRaft platform. See a full list of advertising options and specifications, along with examples here.
Q: Can we control where a lightbox displays, or the size of it? What appears in the lightbox?
A: Lightbox size and position can not be changed, they are fixed to be displayed full-screen and centered over the main content. Any type of typical content can appear in a light-box: scrollable text, images, or a combination of content just as within an article. Light-boxes can also display video, slideshows, GIF animations, and more.
Q: What degree of control is available to change the look, feel, and functionality of the PageRaft platform’s interface?
A: The platform’s interface and the way in which it presents content are all designed around the concept of putting the content first. So while control over the look and design of the content is highly flexible, there is little about the surrounding platform that can change or that would require it. In terms of functionality, the print and share features can be switched off and hidden from the interface. Additional functionality changes within the platform would need to be engineered and deployed by our development team. Each request for additional or changed functionality would be reviewed and followed up with a quote for time and cost.
Q: How are elements like tables, graphs, figures, and charts handled in PageRaft?
A: We will use the PDF of the layout to extract an image of a table, graph, figure, or chart to reproduce them in PageRaft. This is in order to maintain the coherence of the information they contain. Making such elements fully responsive would make it impossible to maintain their integrity and is not advised under any circumstances.
Q: Would our editors have access to the PageRaft content management system, for posting or editing content on an as-needed basis?
A: The PageRaft CMS is constantly evolving. We currently don't have an edit portal for revisions but we do have the ability to license the software for your team to build publications on their own. Please consult your Partner Specialist about a PageRaft Creator License.
Q: Can you explain more regarding Search Engine Optimization?
A: PageRaft books are not exposed to search engines, or crawled by their algorithms unless a publisher specifically requests to enable this within the work order.
Q: We have additional editorial content that doesn't appear in print. Can this content appear in the digital edition?
A: Absolutely! Feel free to add the additional content into the pdf or supply a text document. These pages do not need to be designed.
