The Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination for Technicians (PJET) is an examination owned and developed by NABP for use by the New Hampshire State Board of Pharmacy to consider candidate exam results for the purposes of advanced licensure eligibility for technicians.
The PJET is designed to assess the candidates’ application of laws and regulations for a specific state/jurisdiction. It is taken by individuals that are certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) (or hold another national technician certification), and are registered pharmacy technicians whose duties are performed in a pharmacy under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist who is physically on the premises and holds an unrestricted license issued by the board.
You must take the PJET for the state/jurisdiction in which you want to be licensed. There may be a unique PJET developed for your state/jurisdiction. Before you purchase your exam(s), check with the board of pharmacy to make sure the PJET is required for licensure.
The PJET is a 2.5-hour exam composed of 120 computer-based questions. Of the questions, 100 will be used to calculate your exam results. The remaining 20 are pretest questions distributed throughout the exam, administered so that they can be evaluated for possible inclusion in future examinations – you will not know which questions will affect your exam results.
You must answer all questions in the order in which they are presented, and you may not skip any questions. You cannot go back and change your answers once you have confirmed your answer choice and moved to the next question.
There are no scheduled breaks during the PJET. The total appointment time is 2 hours and 50 minutes to allow time to read and agree to the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for NABP examinations, read the tutorial, answer the exam questions, and take the post-exam survey. You may take unscheduled breaks, but the time used for unscheduled breaks will count against your total time allotted for the exam.
See the Exam Results and Other Outcomes section for details on the PJET scoring process.
To retake the PJET, you must begin the eligibility application process again, including paying the $100 application fee. Eligibility must be reconfirmed by a board of pharmacy. Once eligibility is granted by the board, a new examination fee of $150 will be required. Candidates will not receive a new Authorization to Test (ATT) to schedule an exam until the mandatory waiting period has ended, which is 30 days after the failed exam date.
If you fail the PJET, you must wait 30 days (starting from the date of the failed attempt) before you will be allowed to take the PJET again. Some jurisdictions require a longer waiting period. If you are testing for such a jurisdiction, the longer waiting period applies. This policy is mandatory, and there are no exceptions.
You have a maximum of 5 attempts per jurisdiction to pass the PJET unless the board of pharmacy determines otherwise.
