Though much of the post-Ryder Cup chatter has been negative, one bright spot for the American side was the performance of the Met Area’s very own Cameron Young, who matched Xander Schauffele with a team-best three points at Bethpage Black. The 2015 MGA Player of the Year rose to the occasion in his backyard, bombing drives, draining putts, and even showing some emotion during the week – like celebrating with the crowd as seen above after he and Justin Thomas’s big 6-and-5 win on Friday afternoon over Europe’s Lidvig Åberg and Rasmus Højgaard.
“Apparently Ryder Cups fire me up a little bit,” said Young after making his birdie putt on 18 to earn the full point against a red-hot Justin Rose in the lead Sunday singles match.
Despite the 15-13 loss, Young was still enamored by the experience, no doubt sparking inspiration to earn a spot on Ryder Cup teams for years to come.
