Billy Deavers opened a brewery called Liquidity Aleworks in November 2022. In September 2023, Liquidity was voted Carroll County’s best brewery in the Carroll County Times’ readers’ best issue. Six days before Liquidity’s first anniversary, they won the Maryland Craft Beer Competition cup, beating out 222 other entries to take Best in Show for Three Minutes Later, a cream ale. Billy has been supported in this by his wife, Amy Huffer Deavers ’04, M.S. ’12; Brandi Livesay Tignall, M.S. ’06, whose husband Ray is his business partner; Matt Hurff; Jen Pohl Hurff, M.S.’09; and John Burghardt, who have all made the brewery a place to catch up. Tom Fogarty ’04 has even come down and played a few acoustic shows to entertain the crowds in the taproom.
Matt Mauriello is currently in his 21st year as an educator in Washington County Public Schools and his 17th year as an administrator. Matt is now the longest tenured principal in the 47-year history of Western Heights Middle School, where he is celebrating his ninth anniversary. In his spare time, Matt continues to play live music with his band, Staff Infection, and he also coaches a high-level travel baseball team in the Renegades organization. Matt’s children — Amelya, 20; Sofie, 17; and Kameron, 15 — are growing up quickly! Matt is excited to watch and support his children as they mature into young adults, and work hard in school, their jobs, and in their athletic activities.

As for me, I recently moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia and took a new position at West Chester University. I’m enjoying the life up north; however, I am still getting accustomed to the Philly food and sports.
In the prior edition of The Hill, I noted that I would be passing along my post as class reporter, but I have stayed on this year to continue supporting the college. The work continues to be an honor; however, if someone has an interest in writing for our class in the future, please feel free to reach out to me and we can connect.
