A major initiative that the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) AdCom has been undertaking over the northern hemisphere summer is to both update and increase the social media presence of our publications. As of this writing (early September), the process is finished for some publications and is nearing completion for others. To kick-start the process of updating our presence on social media, a media editor was hired to write short summaries (or vignettes) for featured articles in our publications, which can be seen both on the publications page of the https://mtt.org/ website and through a search on LinkedIn. For IEEE Microwave Magazine, these can be found at https://mtt.org/publications/ieee-microwave-magazine/ and https://www.linkedin.com/company/ieee-microwave-magazine/. These will be dynamic portals for all MTT-S-sponsored publications, and so we encourage you to follow these social media sites to keep up to date on featured articles in our various publications. On LinkedIn, the MTT-S page is https://www.linkedin.com/groups/51393/, and on Facebook the MTT-S page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/IEEEMTT.
The 2024 season for MTT-S-sponsored conferences kicks off with this month’s issue which is focused on the Radio & Wireless Week (RWW) 2024 set of co-located conferences. You can start off with the “From the Guest Editor’s Desk” column by Chia-Chan Chang [A1], who organized the columns in the issue, as well as worked with the authors of the three RWW feature articles. I wish to thank Chia-Chan, who is also an associate editor of the magazine, for her efforts in working on the issue. Her “From the Guest Editor’s Desk” column not only summarizes the RWW feature articles but also briefly describes the RWW-themed columns, starting with the general chair’s message to the MTT-S community. RWW2024 will be held in San Antonio, TX, USA, and will occur right after the 2024 International Microwave Symposium Technical Program Review Committee and MTT-S AdCom meetings. Keeping with the RWW2024 conference theme, the fourth article in this issue is by the winners of the RWW2023 Student Paper Competition [A2]. This competition will again be held at RWW2024. The conference website can be found at https://www.radiowirelessweek.org/.
This issue is not just about RWW2024, however, and we have many of our regular columns. MTT-S President Nuno Borges Carvalho provides us with his final “President’s Message” column for 2023 [A3], and Fred Schindler talks about how we each have different perspectives and how that relates to the business environment. In the “Health Matters” column [A4], James Lin provides his perspective on matters involving electromagnetic interactions with biological media and its relationship with the RadioBio program. In our “MTT-S Society News” column [A5], authors José E. Rayas-Sánchez and Goutam Chattopadhyay, both members of the MTT-S AdCom, talk about promoting MTT-S activities in Costa Rica, part of IEEE Region 9. This month’s “Women in Microwaves” column by Aurea Edna Moreno-Mojica [A6] interviews women students at universities throughout Mexico and presents their perspectives and career goals. Rounding out the issue we have the solution to last month’s “Enigmas, etc.” column challenge [A7] and, of course, our monthly “Conference Calendar” [A8].
I hope to see you at RWW2024 in San Antonio!
