Planning for tomorrow starts with the voices of today. That’s the belief that inspired Goose Creek CISD to launch GC2035, a comprehensive, community-driven committee tasked with creating a long-range facility plan to support the evolving needs of the district.
Through months of study, collaboration, and commitment, nearly 100 community members—including parents, students, educators, business owners, and civic leaders—joined forces to develop a plan that reflects the values and vision of the Goose Creek community.
A Community That Stepped Up
Applications for GC2035 opened in August of 2024. Approximately 100 volunteers were selected by our Board of Trustees, representing a wide cross-section of our district. These individuals dedicated countless hours to evaluating data, asking thoughtful questions, and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Their charge was to evaluate the condition of district facilities and recommend how Goose Creek CISD can continue to offer safe, modern, and effective learning environments.
Informed by Data, Driven by Purpose
To ensure a well-rounded and forward-thinking plan, the committee studied:
Facility Condition Assessments to determine the physical state of buildings over 25 years old that have not had significant renovations
Demographic Studies to project future student enrollment and population shifts
Educational Adequacy Assessments to evaluate how well facilities support learning today
Campus Floor Plans to explore ways to improve existing spaces
Districtwide Needs to identify where new facilities or upgrades may be necessary
From aging infrastructure to areas of rapid growth, the committee reviewed every element with care, always keeping students at the center of every decision.
Supporting Smart, Equitable Growth
In addition to facility planning, GC2035 also contributed valuable input on the district’s comprehensive rezoning initiative. This critical effort aimed to address overcrowding on the north side of the district, creating more balanced school enrollments across all campuses.
Their input helped shape rezoning boundaries that are more equitable, better aligned to future growth, and mindful of community needs. Through this effort, the district also accomplished clean elementary to junior high to high school feeder patterns. The collaboration ensured that facilities—and the students they serve—are positioned for success.
A Plan for the Next Decade
The result of GC2035’s work is a detailed and visionary Long Range Facility Plan—a guiding document that outlines strategic investments in renovations, new construction, and more. It ensures Goose Creek CISD remains proactive, not reactive, in its approach to facility planning.
This plan is not only rooted in data—it’s grounded in community voice. It reflects what matters most to our families, our educators, and our students.
Special Thanks to Our Committee
Goose Creek CISD would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to every committee member who volunteered their time and to our GC2035 Committee Chair, Kristin Sickle, and Vice Chair, Briceida Alcaraz, for their outstanding leadership throughout this process. Their dedication, organization, and guidance helped unify voices, inspire collaboration, and keep the committee focused on what matters most—our students.
