You paid your summer vacation dues. You waited in clogged highway traffic. Waited some more in long, snaking lines for popular rides and attractions at amusement parks and splash zones. Forked over princely sums for food, drinks and souvenirs. Worth it? Absolutely. But now that autumn is here, it’s time to plan a getaway that’s a little more laid-back, and a little more grown-up.
When the thermometer finally mellows out in the fall, many Texans like to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and get back to nature. Maybe not too far back, though, as in completely abandoning the creature comforts. Finding a relaxing spot that covers all the essentials – like golf, good food, luxury spa, well-appointed rooms and spectacular views – can be a tall order.
Fortunately, there’s a unique Hill Country retreat that checks all the boxes. Conveniently located less than half an hour from downtown Austin, Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Located on 405 acres along the banks of the Colorado River, the upscale resort features 491 scenic rooms, including 58 suites, all along the waterway against the backdrop of the rolling hills.
There are plenty of outdoor recreational activities to choose from during your stay, but the first item on the “to-do list” for many guests is to tee it up on the widely acclaimed Wolfdancer Golf Club.
Wolfdancer opened for play in June 2006 and was designed by Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates. Named in honor of the Tonkawa Native American Indians of Central Texas who celebrated life through their wolf dance, this very scenic course traverses three distinct terrains – high prairie, forested ridgeline and the river valley. With diverse and scenic topography, excellent conditions and good service, along with fun and challenging holes, it's not surprising that Wolfdancer has won a number of awards and accolades.
In addition to golf, the resort offers archery lessons, horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, floating down a lazy river at the resort’s on-site water park or simply unwinding at Spa Django, tucked within the sweeping Lost Pines wilderness.
All that fresh air and exercise is sure to work up an appetite. To satisfy any hunger pang, the resort has a wide assortment of dining options ranging from juicy steaks and more at Stories Fine Dining, southern-inspired dishes at the cheery Firewheel Café to the rustic Shellers Barrelhouse Bar where diners can enjoy specialty cocktails and regional microbrews while enjoying some Texas-style casual fare.
Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa is an idyllic spot when you’re ready to delight in the peace and tranquility of the great outdoors, but in a five-star kind of way.
If you’re planning a weekend trip sometime soon, consider extending that stay a little longer and join the TGA on Dec. 3 at Wolfdancer Golf Club for a special Fun Golf outing. The event is one of three that will run concurrently throughout the state as part of “GivingTuesday,” a global day of giving designed to help kick off the charitable season.
The other two Fun Golf events on Dec. 3 will be held at Old American Golf Club in The Colony and Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land.
The Play Days are open to all TGA Members and their friends, and proceeds from the three events will benefit the TGA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to ensuring that the game of golf in Texas continues to grow and prosper.
Tee times for the Dec. 3 Fun Golf outing at Wolfdancer start at 10:30 a.m. and the format is individual stroke play with prizes for Gross and Net divisions. Entering the competition is optional, for those that would just rather not worry about their score. The cost is $75 for TGA Members ($85 for non-members) and includes green fee, cart fee, range balls and tee gift.
Make plans now to join us on Dec. 3 at Wolfdancer for good fun on a great course while helping to give back to the game we all love. If you live closer to Dallas-Fort Worth, come play in the Dec. 3 event at Old American. For the Houstonians, we’ll see you on Dec. 3 at Riverbend Country Club!
