Chris Wheeler of Addison claimed his first Texas Golf Association victory at the 34th Texas Mid-Amateur at Maridoe Golf Club. He carded rounds of 74-70-70 to post the only number in red figures of the 132-player field and finished at 2-under 214.Two weeks later, Gary Durbin of Houston came from six shots back to win the 82nd Texas Senior Amateur at Deerwood Club. The seasoned veteran displayed poise despite an unusually long weekend due to weather delays. He carded rounds of 73-71-73 to win the year’s final Men’s Major Championship by two strokes.
