Scottie Scheffler is not your average man. He’s 6-foot-3 and plays golf better than anyone else in the world. Rory McIlroy is not your average guy either, but the 5-foot-9 Northern Irishman does share something in common with the average man – height.
The most commonly cited average height for adult males in the U.S. is 5 feet, 9 inches. Veteran golf retailer Nick Parker, who is 5-foot-6, understands this better than most and he launched the apparel brand Nicholas James to offer premium performance wear tailored exclusively for men 5-9 and under.
Nicholas James delivers the polish of a private club wardrobe with the proportions shorter golfers have long needed. It offers golf performance wear with stretch fabrics, modern cuts and moisture-wicking comfort. Its luxury fabrics include Merino wool, Pima cotton, performance blends, and Italian cashmere in items that transition seamlessly from the fairway to more formal settings.
While helping launch a big-and-tall division, Parker realized nobody was designing for shorter men, and it sparked his new industry mission.
“Growing up working in high-end golf shops, I developed a deep appreciation for great menswear,” said Parker. “But nothing ever fit right. The fashion industry never considered men like us. I built Nicholas James to give guys like me the same level of style and craftsmanship finally cut to our frame. … it changed everything.”
With performance ($68) and Pima cotton ($74) polos, lightweight vests ($178), quarter-zips ($115), five-pocket trousers ($98), Merino wool tees ($79) or cashmere crewnecks ($328), Nicholas James collections are made to fit shorter men without oversized collars, baggy sleeves or pants that puddle.
