From Scottie Scheffler and Hideki Matsuyama to Rose Zhang and Ayaka Furue, the Toyota Junior World Cup boasts many talented past players. Since the inaugural tournament in 1992, the Junior World Cup has become one of the biggest events in junior golf.
“It’s an event that creates really good players and hopefully it will keep creating good players,” Jon Rahm said in 2017, five years after he played in the event. “I loved it.”
This week, 63 of the best junior golfers in the world representing 14 countries will tee it up at the Chukyo Golf Club’s Ishino Course in Japan. The Junior World Cup is a four-day team competition with 12 boys teams and nine girls teams made up of three players each. At the end of the final round, the players’ individual scores will count towards their team score and the lowest team score will win. READ MORE
Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods, qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur for the second straight year.
The younger Woods bogeyed his final hole last Thursday, falling into a three-way tie for the final spot out of Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, before winning the playoff. A Spalding “Vardon” Flyer golf ball that the legendary Harry Vardon used to win the 1900 U.S. Open fetched a hefty price at a recent auction.
The artifact from Vardon’s lone U.S. Open victory sold for $194,259.20 on June 15. Starting with a minimum bid of $15,000, the U.S. Open-winning ball received 21 bids, culminating in the final six-figure selling price. READ MORE
