According to David Glod, the founder of Tour Edge and chief designer of its products, the new Exotics EXS 220 and EXS 220h hollow-body irons “take us into the realm of offering next-level distance coupled with extreme forgiveness in both game-improvement and super-game-improvement designs.”
“We have long been a trailblazer in hollow-body irons,” Glod added. “And these new clubs encompass every performance benefit this emerging technology provides.”
The game-improvement model is the EXS 220, and it features both hollow-body (from 4- to 7- iron) and deep-undercut designs (from 8-iron through gap wedge) in a platinum chrome finish. The long irons are made to provide more power, thanks largely to a forged, maraging steel, 450 Cup face, while scoring irons are fashioned to produce a tighter dispersion and boast a solid, 431 stainless-steel construction. Each club in this line also has a tungsten toe weight and an expanded sweet spot.
For those looking for a super-game-improvement option, there is the EXS 220h. Every club in that set has a hollow-body construction and is made of 17-4 steel. And they are sold with a brushed black satin finish. Glod says that the “h” in the appellation is used to designate these as “a hybrid-iron set” crafted to create the feel and control of a forged-irons set with progressive offsets.
Both the 220 and the 220h versions come with SpiderWeb variable face thickness, which also is designed to enhance the sweet spot, and LaunchPad technology, a TPE polymer housed in the internal cavity insert that has been coated with a performance gel to absorb shock and create more spring effect. A ramped sole is included to offer more relief on the heel and toe, for smoother turf interaction, while a new notch hosel allows for easier bending for custom fitting.
