In addition to using artificial intelligence to create their new Mavrik driver and irons, Callaway Golf engineers employed the technology to develop fairway woods and hybrids carrying that same name.
They laud the Mavrik fairways for being the fastest they have made, and for featuring an expansive hitting area as well as a single, fixed weight in the sole that pulls the center of gravity low and back in the head, for a higher launch and a flatter trajectory.
AI came into play with the making of the Flash Face SS20 for these clubs, which is forged from C300 maraging steel and designed to increase ball speed. Company officials also employed tried-and-true Jailbreak and Face Cup technologies in these sticks and used a T2C carbon crown to further enhance ball speed while bolstering forgiveness.
The Mavrik fairways are available in three models – Standard, Max and Sub Zero. The Max has the largest and most forgiving head of the three and a draw bias. It also possesses a higher moment of inertia, for greater forgiveness, and a face that boasts a wider radius at the bottom to create more of a hitting area in the low-toe and low-heel regions. With regards to the Sub Zero, it comes with the sort of compact head, face shape and leading edge architecture that better players prefer.
Callaway engineers also used AI to fully optimize the faces of the new Mavrik hybrids in terms of speed, launch angle and spin rate. As was the case with the fairways they employed that technology to fashion a different face design for every loft, and to deliver faster ball speeds across the clubfaces. In addition to being available in a Standard version, the Mavrik hybrid comes in a Max model, with a larger body and deeper CG designed to make it easier to launch shots, and a Pro edition, which has a compact shape, smaller profile, shallower face and a cambered sole.
