In addition to using artificial intelligence to create a couple of driver lines, Callaway engineers have employed the technology to produce a series of premium irons: Mavrik, Mavrik Pro and Mavrik Max.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of these offerings is the Flash Face Cup they feature. Developed through AI, they boast sophisticated face architectures that are unique to each iron – and that are designed to boost ball speed significantly. Technicians also discovered that through AI they could enhance the performance characteristics in each clubface, designing the long irons specifically for launch and speed, the mid-irons for speed and spin consistency, and the short irons for spin and precision.
The research-and-development team turned once again to its 360 Face Cup technology to further bolster clubface flex on centered and off-centered hits. And as they have done in past iron series, Callaway engineers positioned custom tungsten weights in each iron head to optimize launch and trajectory as they incorporated the company’s proprietary urethane microspheres in the faces to absorb unwanted vibration.
Along with standard Mavrik irons, which are made to appeal to a wide range of players, the equipment maker is offering a Mavrik Pro line for better golfers who prefer more compact head shapes, flatter lie angles and thinner top lines. Then, there is the Mavrik Max, with a larger body and deeper center of gravity for increased forgiveness and easier launch.
