TaylorMade revitalizes its putter franchise with the release of the Spider Tour Series, a family of high-MOI putters with five unique models.
Within mallet designs that all feature TaylorMade’s True Path alignment on the crowns to help center the balls at address, each Spider Tour Series putter is crafted using multi-material construction to push weight low and back in the head for high levels of inertia.
The suite of putters – Spider Tour, X, V, Z and soon-to-be-released S, all retailing for $350 – includes various center-of-gravity positions to fit a wide variety of putting styles, while also arming custom fitters with an array of options.
Underneath the hood is a new HYBRAR Echo Damper that is also seen in TaylorMade distance irons such as Stealth and Stealth HD. It is placed directly behind the face to dampen unwanted vibrations for enhanced sound and feel in concert with the Pure Roll insert that delivers a soft yet responsive feel with grooves that are angled 45 degrees downward to help impart better topspin and end-over-end roll.
“Spider putters have long been synonymous with stability, which directly translates to high-MOI performance,†said Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade’s vice president of product creation. “The unconventional shape creates a more stable platform that protects ball speed on mis-hits and delivers a more consistent roll across the face.â€
The Spider Tour is one of the most recognizable shapes, accounting for dozens of victories on professional tours across the world. The new model uses enhanced materials, a new color and refined weight distribution. The Spider Tour also comes in a 38-inch counterbalance model with a 17-inch SuperStroke 3.0 grip.
The Spider Tour X uses a compact shape and modern look to deliver a more blade-like feel with the added benefits of alignment and forgiveness. Weights in Spider Tour X are placed farther forward, generating more face rotation.
The Spider Tour Z and Tour V are two new shapes in this lineup. The Z has a wing-shaped back, and its perimeter sits low in the ground to provide a comfortable feeling at address and help frame the golf ball for easy alignment. The V – the smallest putter in shape and size – eliminates the wing structure and creates a more modern streamlined look with the most rotation of the bunch.
The Spider Tour S (to be available in the spring) is a 3-millimeter longer/8-millimeter wider version of the original Spider, constructed at a heavier head weight and only offered at 35- and 38-inch lengths, with both featuring counterbalance grips for maximum stability.
