The new owners of The European Club in Brittas Bay, Ireland, reportedly will shut down the seaside links southeast of Dublin on Dec. 8 and redevelop the entire club in order to transform it into one of Ireland’s premier golf destinations.
Irish Golfer published a letter to members from Raymond and Nicky Conlan, the father and son who purchased the acclaimed Irish links in Co. Wicklow from architect and owner Pat Ruddy, announcing plans to dissolve the club and reopen it in late spring of 2027 after extensive renovations.
“The Club will come to an end and the course will close to allow a major redevelopment of the grounds and facilities,” the letter stated. “This project represents a significant investment and will create a new and different golfing offering, designed to stand alongside the very best destinations internationally.” READ MORE
Dean Robertson, whose bid to captain a road upset was undone by a dominating American singles performance at Cypress Point in September, will continue as captain of Great Britain and Ireland for the 51st Walker Cup against the U.S. at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland next year.
Robertson, who serves as the Head of Golf at the University of Stirling in Scotland, captained GB&I to within one point of the Americans ahead of the 10 Sunday singles matches at Cypress Point Club. The U.S. team ultimately buried the visitors in the singles session to win 17-9.
His coaching rapport with the young players helped earn him a second chance at captain Sept. 5-6, 2026, as GB&I will try to end a five-match winning streak by the Americans.
“I am proud to accept the honor of captaining Great Britain and Ireland again in the Walker Cup at Lahinch,” said Robertson, 55, who competed in the 1993 Walker Cup. “Leading a talented group of players at Cypress Point this year was a huge privilege and while we produced strong foursomes performances, the singles showed us the improvement and belief needed to achieve victory.” READ MORE
