Some really great stuff in here (“Wales of a show,” August 4, GGP). Can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and your team going hard in the paint to support the women’s game. It makes a difference.

Enjoyed your column on the AIG Women’s Open today (“Women’s Open a welcome event for Wales,” August 4, GGP). My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed attending. For spectators at Royal Porthcawl there were plenty of locations that provided good viewing, mainly due to the natural undulations of the course. For me one of the best viewing points was on the right side of the 10th fairway where the drives were landing (we helped Darcey Harry locate her ball on Friday morning). You then had a perfect view of approach shots, and could even see putting on the green. Interestingly we also had superb views from the coastal path as we watched several leading groups play Nos. 2, 3 and 4 on Saturday.
Overall a great success in my opinion, the weather providing enough of a true links test. Interested to read your comments on why the Open cannot be staged at Porthcawl, and by the sound of it nothing can be done to resolve this? Such a pity.
So I guess we’ll just have to wait for the Women’s Open to return, and hopefully another Senior Open soon.

As a minister, golfer, father and human being, I have admired Tom Cousins for decades (“Divot: East Lake exemplar,” August 4, GGP). Yes, I enjoyed the largesse of upper-level country club members … but I always asked myself if there were not some way we could do more to reverse the inequities of life. Tom Cousins did not just ask the questions … he did it.
Thanks for a great article about a great man.

Thank you for continually producing special pieces for us golf addicts (“Divot: East Lake exemplar,” August 4, GGP). I was fortunate to meet Mr. Cousins about 25 years back as he competed in the annual U.S. Seniors’ Golf Association Championship at the Apawamis Club. As you’re well aware, he had a strong but classy presence about him.
