A former Augusta National Golf Club warehouse worker was sentenced to a year in prison in Chicago federal court last Wednesday for his role in a 13-year scheme to steal Masters memorabilia – including green jackets the club awarded to Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen – and sell it to a sports memorabilia broker. The worker, 40-year-old Richard Globensky of Augusta, was also ordered to pay $3.4 million in restitution.
Globensky pleaded guilty last year to one count of transporting stolen goods across state lines. He had worked as an assistant at Augusta National’s warehouse, earning $17 to $19 an hour, since 2007 and admitted he began stealing items from the club starting in 2009. Globensky was paid more than $5.3 million over 13 years, though the actual loss to Augusta National was closer to $3.5 million, according to the plea. He used the proceeds to fund a lavish lifestyle that included a $600,000 custom-built home, Disney-themed vacations and a fleet of four luxury vehicles. READ MORE

He also substituted Texas chili as the first course, replacing the tortilla soup served in 2023 that packed a spicy punch, leaving several past champions begging for mercy. READ MORE
