Odyssey’s new line of Ai-One Square 2 Square putters illustrates that when it comes to face rotation during the putting stroke, it’s hip to be square.
The Ai-One Square 2 Square putters ($299.99) feature three classic models with a modern center-shafted design to make them “stroke balanced” so they can stay square throughout a golfer’s stroke by minimizing face rotation.
Three of Odyssey’s most popular Ai-One putter styles – the Double Wide blade, bat-winged No. 7 and Jailbird mallet – are available with Square 2 Square, zero-torque technology. Square 2 Square putters are center-shafted, attaching toward the middle of the head and closer to the center-of-gravity plane. This results in putters resting with the toe up in a reverse torque position, opposite of a traditional putter with toe hang, promoting a square face throughout the stroke.
The Stroke Lab 90 putter shaft – with 20-30 grams (depending on the grip) of counterbalance weight in the butt end so the weight can then be distributed across the putter head and under the grip – attaches farther back from the face than previous designs, allowing for 3.3 degrees of forward shaft lean to preset the hands in a forward-press position, eliminating the opening of the face.
The heavier, larger head models chosen for the Square 2 Square lineup allow Odyssey to create a higher moment of inertia, resulting in increased stability and resistance to twisting.
Each putter also features an Ai-One “White Hot” urethane insert co-molded with a contoured aluminum backer to produce a more consistent strike and better distance control across the face.
