I love Ron Green Jr.’s writing, and he usually finds the true nerve and sweet spot of stories, but it seems he has totally missed here with Sergio García (“Garcia miscast as victim in Ryder Cup drama,” October 14 GGP).
With his defection to LIV, and bringing his beyond-petulant self, something broke that does not get unbroken. I don’t think European captain Luke Donald and a vast majority of potential Ryder Cup players want anything to do with García. As a serious competitor myself, I absolutely would not.
Everything he stands for would soil something good and pure(r) here. The accompanying toxicity that would inextricably walk into the team room as well would kill any vibe to root for Europe (which I do) or motivation to play for the team.
It will be hard enough to have LIV’s Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton there, if that happens. LIV is beyond horrible, and everything it stands for. But like everything else, we just absorb it ... eventually ... compromising any moral or virtuous blueprint by which we live. Character, integrity, soul ... meaningless.
The greatest feeling from the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome came from a team with zero LIV players beating a team that invited LIV.
Who are we anymore? What standards do we live by? We ruin everything. We mortgage our souls for what? Something that lost its value as soon as we lost our way.

It would be a total distraction (“Garcia miscast as victim in Ryder Cup drama,” October 14 GGP).
He behaves like a spoiled child at times, and whoever plays with him would carry the burden of that behavior and the hostility of the crowds (European, as well).

Age is working against the guys who left, and the question is whether any of them will be a future European captain. That’s what Sergio García wants long term (“Garcia miscast as victim in Ryder Cup drama,” October 14 GGP).

I truly believe nobody wants Sergio García to participate (“Garcia miscast as victim in Ryder Cup drama,” October 14 GGP). He’s total (expletive)!
Imagine the way the New York galleries would treat him. If it happens, García would be smart to play along as best as he can.
