If the PGA Tour courses would cut their fairways the same as the ones that 99 percent of us play, the pros would not get 50 yards of roll or more.
The fairways on tour are faster than the Stimpmeter readings for the greens that I play.
The other way, keeping the ball the same, would be to set the minimum loft of a driver and metal woods used in tournaments to be 22 degrees, which is my 7-wood. During the recent U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, I watched on TV as Rory McIlroy hit a 5-wood cleanly off the deck 248 yards carry, uphill to a par-5, so 18 degrees is too little loft.

Regarding the news of the person yelling during the final hole of the recent celebrity event, the American Century Championship: Because they are practically begging people to bet on everything, I am surprised it’s not happening every day. It was only a matter of time.
