An exciting summer lies ahead for The R&A’s amateur championships and internationals being staged in Great Britain and Ireland in 2022.
Online entries close on Thursday 19 May for The 127th Amateur Championship being staged at Royal Lytham & St Annes and St Annes Old Links from 13-18 June.
The Amateur Championship is one of the biggest and most prestigious amateur championships in the world. Some of golf’s greatest names have triumphed, including Bobby Jones, Sergio Garcia and José María Olazábal.
The event will be contested over stroke play and then match play. The winner secures exemptions into The Open and the U.S. Open, and by tradition, an invitation to play in the Masters Tournament.
Founded in 1886, Royal Lytham & St Annes is one of the premier links courses in the world and has hosted The Open on 11 occasions. St Annes Old Links is another fine championship test and is currently one of four courses in the United Kingdom which hosts Final Qualifying for The Open.
For The Amateur, a maximum of 72 entrants will compete in a separate pre-qualifying competition comprising 18 holes of stroke play over St Annes Old Links on Friday 10 June to qualify for a minimum of 10 places into the championship.
Pre-qualifying is to provide a route into the championship for those players who do not have the prerequisite World Amateur Golf Ranking.
The championship and pre-qualifying are open to male amateur golfers who are ranked within WAGR listing 1-2,000 at date of entry or hold a World Handicap System Index of not more than +0.5 at date of entry.
Any player who fails to secure one of the automatic 278 spots in the championship will have the opportunity to compete in pre-qualifying, subject to the handicap ballot.
Entries close on Thursday 26 May for The 119th Women's Amateur Championship being held at Hunstanton from 20-25 June.
Any female amateur ranked within WAGR listing 1-1,000 at date of entry or who holds a World Handicap System Index of not more than 2.4 at date of entry is eligible to enter.
The championship, founded in 1893, attracts an international field with an impressive list of former winners including LPGA winner Leona Maguire and major champions Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist.
The winner gains entry into the AIG Women’s Open, U.S. Women’s Open, The Evian Championship and Augusta National Women's Amateur Championship.
Hunstanton is a superb links course, with golfers walking the rolling fairways nestling in a stunning landscape of dunes and links grasses for 125 years. This will be the sixth playing of The Women’s Amateur at Hunstanton, the last 50 years ago.
Online entry for other R&A amateur championships later in the summer, including the Girls’ and Boys’ Amateur and the Senior Amateur and Women’s Senior Amateur, can also be made.
