FootJoy teamed with West Coast street-fashion icon Jon Buscemi to design a special edition collection of its Premiere series shoes dubbed “The Players Shoe.”
Infusing gold as a nod to the Players Championship trophy, the premium Pittards of England leather shoe not only has the classic Premiere silhouette but is packed with innovation including the VersaTrax+ outsole with an anti-channeling tread pattern engineered to provide grip and traction to reduce slippage from any lie.
“I’m really digging all of the small details put into this collection and the touches of gold throughout,” said Justin Thomas, 2021 Players champion who put the $370 shoes into play in his title defense. “The combination of creative street style and golf performance is perfect.”
Meanwhile, FootJoy didn’t need to do a lot to improve on its world’s top-selling model, but the newest tweaks to its Pro/SL shoe promise more comfort and stability.
With a new Infinity outsole that boasts more traction, a Stratofoam insole for comfort and a reimagined PowerHarness for stability, the Pro/SL aims to keep satisfying its faithful fans.
FootJoy says the outsole is the most stable (30 percent more) spikeless golf shoe it’s ever built, with 189 points of traction and 17 percent more surface area in the heel to provide grip and ground contact no matter the conditions.
What it calls a “Dual-Density D2” midsole includes the introduction of Stratofoam to provide full foot support through the golf swing and impact absorption. A firm FTF foam delivers perimeter stability and the soft underfoot FTF foam brings cushioning and balance.
It has a full rounded toe shape, standard fit across forefoot and instep with a slightly narrow heel. Its leather is supple, lightweight, durable and 100 percent waterproof. The integrated Power Harness provides medial and lateral support.
The Pro/SL also comes with a BOA model – with its dial in the heel for micro-adjustability to provide a better connection for added stability and control – and a Carbon model which integrates a full-length carbon fiber plate to provide support, balance and stability while claiming to reduce underfoot fatigue.
The standard Pro/SL ($180) is available in four colors – white, navy/white, gray and black. The women’s model ($170) has a rose gold and white option while the junior model ($80) comes in all white.
