Callaway technicians laud the new Apex UW (for utility wood) for the ways it combines “the best features of higher lofted fairway woods and the best features of hybrids” and produces “a more neutral ball flight.” It is, they say, “a multipurpose club that better players can rely on.”
Phil Mickelson was among members of the company’s tour staff who helped develop the UW and creating plenty of ball speed on center and off-center hits was a primary consideration. In that pursuit, Callaway engineers employed several of their most successful technologies, such as artificial intelligence-designed Flash Face SS21, Jailbreak A.I. Velocity Blades and Forged C300 Face Cups.
They also used tungsten weighting in each of the clubs, positioning the center of gravity in a neutral location to provide that coveted combination of high launch and steeper landing angles for better stopping power and consistent spin.
As for the clubhead, company officials describe it as “clean” and “compact” and made to enhance workability and control.
The Apex UW is offered in lofts of 17, 19 and 21 degrees and priced at $299.99 a club.
