In adding to its line of Spider putters, TaylorMade is giving golfers more options when it comes to these highly regarded mallets, which are prized for the forgiveness they offer and the ways they make it easier to aim and align one’s flat stick.
Start with the Spider EX, which features an aluminum frame and carbon composite center. Those features allowed engineers to enhance the perimeter weighting and elevate moment of inertia, with the goal of a more consistent roll across the clubface. A True Path alignment system uses a reflective white color that spans the putter’s topline and three dots enclosed by dual rails to make it easier to aim and promote a more consistent address position.
In addition the Spider EX boasts a new Pure Roll insert designed to produce a smooth path toward the hole, as well as a Fluted Feel shaft that was developed with KBS to maintain stability.
Next up is the Spider X Hydro Blast, which possesses the same, multi-material construction of the original Spider X and also employs both the True Path design alignment aids and TPU Pure Roll insert. The big difference with this model is the silver color and rich finish that the high-pressure application of water to the aluminum body creates.
Then comes the Spider S, which is made from high-grade 6061 aluminum – and which TaylorMade technicians refreshed with an arrow-shaped True Path. The square-shaped head is outfitted with a pair of 42-gram sole weights near the toe and heel to promote stability, while a heavy tungsten back bar is included to further optimize swing weight – and performance.
As for the Spider SR (for stability refined), it has a double-wing shape designed to be as stable as it is forgiving. It has a True Path system of its own, with this one positioned within the cavity behind the putter face.
Different as they may be in some regard, however, both are also equipped with the new Fluted Feel shaft and TPU Pure Roll insert.
