The people working in golf ball development at Bridgestone have been quite busy in recent months, as evidenced by a flurry of new product introductions, upgrades and line extensions.
Start with the latest iteration of the popular e6, a two-piece, Surlyn-covered product. Available in white and optic yellow, it now features a larger, softer core designed to add distance, especially on drives, and improve feel and forgiveness on both long and short irons for moderate swing-speed players.
Next up is the e12 Contact, and the prime piece of technology in this ball is an advanced dimple design that is designed to not only slow sidespin during flight but also increase contact at impact to transfer energy more efficiently and to improve core activation. The result, Bridgestone technicians say, is faster ball speeds and more distance with every club in the bag as well as fewer slices and hooks.
In addition to classic white, the three-piece, e12 Contact ball is sold in matte green, matte red and matte yellow color options.
This spring also saw the release of a Bridgestone Tour B XS golf ball in yellow. Featuring the same technologies of the standard Tour B XS, a urethane-covered, three-piece ball that was designed with the help of Tiger Woods, it is made for players with fast swing speeds who want additional spin control around the green.
“The Tour B XS has a very large and enthusiastic following,” said Elliot Mellow, the company’s golf ball marketing manager. “A significant number of those players indicated a desire for a yellow option, and being in tune with our consumers, we created it for them.”
