Ping’s new Scottsdale putter family features a forgiving face insert inspired by an unlikely source – athletic shoe technology.
The Scottsdale lineup of nine models – Craz-E, Prime Tyne 4, Prime Tyne C, Oslo 3, Anser, Anser 2D, Anser 4, B63 and DS72 – use PEBAX elastomer, a material commonly used in the soles of athletic shoes. The lightweight, high-energy-return compound delivers a soft yet responsive feel in the one-piece insert, leading to improved distance control and consistency.
The impact stability in every Scottsdale model is advanced because of the large face-insert cavities that allow weight savings to be redistributed more toward the perimeter to increase the moment of inertia. Optimally placed center-of-gravity positions help reduce skid and initiate forward roll.
“The combination of the softer insert and higher MOI in every model deliver the preferred feel and ball-speed control many golfers need to improve their consistency on the greens,” said John K. Solheim, Ping CEO and president. “In some of the models, the heads are slightly larger than previous versions to ensure even more forgiveness. We like to categorize these as game-improvement putters.”
Every Scottsdale model (each $270) features subtle color blocking between the top rail and back portion to draw focus to the front of the putter for better alignment. With various head sizes and shapes across the family, golfers can match a blade, mid-mallet or mallet with all three stroke types (Straight, Slight Arc, Strong Arc) and hosel styles. A SuperStroke grip is standard on all models.
“The new line of putters includes some of the highest- performing models in our history, like the standard-setting Anser, and the popular Craz-E model, which was ahead of its time more than 20 years ago with its unique shaping and alignment features,” said Solheim. “The new insert technology applied to every model helps ensure a soft, responsive feel, with the forgiveness and accuracy to sink more putts.
“We continue to encourage golfers to take the time to get custom fit for their putters. From finding the best stroke type for your game to matching the putter’s look to your eye, a custom-fit putter can make a huge difference on the scorecard.”
