Sometimes there are layers to branding. Under the Callaway umbrella is the fashion brand Travis Mathew, and tucked into that realm is a sub-brand dubbed Cuater. Each layer trends a little younger and hipper.
Cuater sells golf shoes, gloves and accessories that combine performance and style with a playful attitude. It appeals to young stars such as Jon Rahm and Sam Burns, who joined the Cuater team with its premium tour performance Ringer golf shoes.
The Ringer, available for $199.95 in five colors, has removable Softspikes Pivix cleats on an athletic style, polyurethane/nylon blend waterproof shoe that focuses on breathability and moisture management. Its “SweetSpot” cushioning system has layers of molded foam to ensure comfort.
The versatile Moneymaker ($159.95) is Cuater’s best-selling spikeless shoe, with a lightweight foam midsole and a treated fabric outer that is stain-resistant and waterproof. It also has the SweetSpot cushioning system and comes in four different colors. A leather Luxe version is $179.95.
Gloves don’t typically draw much attention, but Cuater’s offerings attract notice. They’re all lightweight and flexible, crafted from premium Cabretta leather, with breathable perforations between the fingers for moisture reduction. The adjustable tab closure allows a customized fit.
What stands out are the playful graphics which aren’t afraid to delve in double entendre. Its top-selling Between the Lines glove has a two-toned “Birdie” written down the middle finger, just in case you miss the silhouette on the back of the hand. The Double Me glove reads “Give Me A Double” on the index and middle fingers, effective at the course and the bar. Another says “Shooter” down the index finger. The newest model, Merrit, has a stylish palm tree pattern.
The grip location reminder has various messages as well, from “Grip Shaft Here” to “Insert Beer Here” to “Cash Please.” The premium gloves retail for $34.95.
