Callaway’s original Rouge irons set a high bar, becoming the first such line to rank atop the world in sales in consecutive years.
“That lineup was extremely successful for us, but we wanted to completely reimagine it,” said Dave Neville, senior equipment director for Callaway Golf. “It’s not a Rogue 2.0. There’s a ton of new innovations here.”
Engineers packed a series of innovative technology into the company’s new Rogue ST irons to create its fastest and longest game-improvement clubs to fit a wide range of golfers.
In an industry first, Callaway has combined high-strength 450 steel with its A.I.-designed Flash Face Cup to produce more ball speed and better ball speed consistency. Face optimization and loft are unique for each of the four models to create spin-rate consistency across the face, generating high launch and COR plus a more controlled landing angle to help hold greens.
“Now using the 450 high-strength steel – it’s wider, it’s more flexible, it allows us to be more aggressive with the use of artificial intelligence on the face itself,” said Neville. “And it frees up weight which we’ve now put into the precision tungsten weighting.”
Callaway’s patented urethane microspheres – millions of tiny air bubbles that allow the ultra-thin face to flex – are now pushed further up the face to the sixth groove in Rogue ST irons to enhance sound and deliver pure feel while maintaining fast ball speeds. They also have increased its precision weighting substantially, using high-density tungsten in measures from 46 to 62 grams to improve launch conditions and maximize speed across the face.
“Those three elements – what we’re doing with the face, what we’re doing with the tungsten and what we’re doing for the sound and feel with the urethane microspheres – that’s the big leap forward,” Neville said. “These are our longest irons ever. We’re getting 3 or 4 yards longer here without strengthening the loft.”
Its longest iron is the Rogue ST Max, with refined game-improvement shaping and the strongest lofts and weighting in the Rogue ST family to suit a wide range of golfers who want speed, forgiveness and all-around performance.
The MAX OS is a forgiving game-improvement iron with high launch, wide soles and enhanced offset for mid-high handicap golfers, while the OS Lite offers increased lofts with lighter shafts and swingweights to produce its highest-launching, easiest-to-swing model.
The Rogue ST Pro packs technology into a hollow body construction and compact shape for single-digit handicappers, delivering the look and feel of a players performance iron with the distance and forgiveness of a game-improvement iron.
