PRESENTING
MEN’S MID-AMATEUR
FIRST TEAM
Stephen Behr
Atlanta, Georgia
Winner, National Club Championship
Top 5, John T. Lupton Memorial
Round of 16, U.S. Mid-Am
Not only did Behr win the inaugural National Club Championship at Pinehurst, but he also had top-5 results against good fields in the John T. Lupton, Georgia Amateur and Georgia Mid-Am. Of course a deep run at Sankaty Head for the Mid-Am also helped his cause.
Chip Brooke
Altamonte Springs, Florida
Winner, Gasparilla Invitational
Winner, Birmingham National Invitational
Top 5, Florida Mid-Amateur
The Gasparilla and Birmingham National events were rated as two of the top mid-am tournaments in the country for 2021. Brooke, the former Streamsong caddie master, battled to narrow victories in both.

Top 10, English Men’s Amateur

With his clutch play at the Carey Cup, his runner-up finish in the U.S. Mid-Am, his consecutive top-10s in the Met Open, Met Amateur, New Jersey State Open and the Ike, Costanza represented the best of northeast mid-am golf in 2021.

Deraney continues to be an easy first-team pick year after year. He won a major mid-am event, had a top-5 finish against the young guns in the Azalea, a top-5 in the Stocker Cup and a top-10 in the Gasparilla.
JerÓnimo Esteve
Windermere, Florida

Winner, Caribbean Amateur
Top 5, George C. Thomas Invitational
You can’t ask much more from Esteve, who has blossomed into a routinely stellar mid-amateur. The Puerto Rico native won the Carlton Woods, the Caribbean and the Devil's Elbow, had a top-5 in the George C. Thomas, was medalist in stroke play at the Crump and reached match play in the U.S. Mid-Am.
Stewart Hagestad
Newport Beach, California
Winner, U.S. Mid-Amateur
Winner, George C. Thomas Invitational
Top 5, Terra Cotta Invitational
Per usual, Hagestad continues to be the best mid-am in the game. He was nothing short of dominant in the U.S. Mid-Am, won the George C. Thomas by nine shots and was competitive outside the mid-am space during the Terra Cotta, the Western and the Jones Cup.
Lukas Michel
Australia
Winner, Australian Master of the Amateurs
Top 5, Riversdale Cup
Top 10, South Australia Amateur Classic
Michel was among the few mid-ams who picked up impressive victories in a regular amateur tournament this year. His final-round 69 in the Australian Master of the Amateurs clinched a two-stroke victory and led to other admirable results for the 2019 U.S. Mid-Am champ.
Peter O’Keefe
Ireland
Winner, Irish Men’s Amateur Open
Winner, Irish Men’s Amateur Close Championship
Winner, Munster Men’s Stroke Play Championship
The former Challenge Tour player who is approaching 40 years old has been beating stiff competition half his age. O’Keefe is one of the great mid-am stories of the year.
Garrett Rank
Canada
Runner-Up, Dogwood Invitational
Runner-Up, Porter Cup
Round of 16, U.S. Mid-Amateur
The NHL referee nearly won two marquee amateur events, coming close at the Dogwood and Porter Cup. That counts for a ton as a mid-am. He also finished 11th against a loaded field at the Sunnehanna and made a run in the U.S. Mid-Am.
Chad Wilfong
Charlotte, North Carolina
Semifinalist, North & South Amateur
Winner, Carolinas Mid-Amateur
Round of 32, U.S. Mid-Am
Wilfong’s run to the semifinals of the North & South is arguably the most impressive mid-amateur performance of the year. That event had a 795 WAGR strength, making it among the top fields in all of amateur golf. He also won the Carolinas Mid-Am by three strokes ahead of a strong field.
