The new Exotics EXS Pro irons from Tour Edge include a trio of limited-edition designs that, in the words of one company official, come “straight from the tour van.” They include a line of cavity-backs, a set of muscle-back blades and a family of wedges. All are forged from a higher-grade, Japanese S25C carbon steel and feature CNC milled faces (for perfect flatness) and grooves (for optimum spin through the set). And they are made for discerning golfers who covet looks, feel and performance in an iron.
“As a club designer, I love player iron designs that are as beautiful as they are playable,” says David Glod, the founder of Tour Edge and its master club designer. “These three designs were made to be drooled over by the core golfer. We used a lot of feedback from the PGA Tour and tested these irons with our professional staff as well as with extensive robotic testing. And I can report back that we have three winners across the board.”
One of those is the Exotics EXS Pro, and it is endowed with a classic, compact shape. The cavity is fashioned to prove a higher moment of inertia, for better forgiveness, and tungsten toe weighting is employed in the 3- to 6-irons to elongate the sweet spot and further maximize forgiveness.
As for the EXS Pro Blades, they too boast a classic shaping but one with a thinner top line than the Pro as well as a narrow sole, a beveled leading edge and a square toe design. The muscle-back design places more weight low and behind the hitting area, for more versatility in shot-making and -shaping. In addition, these have a rounded sole radius that helps to reduce drag and turf interaction.
Then, there are the EXS Blade Wedges, with their custom-grind soles and dual groove construction so that the lower lofts (50 to 52 degrees) have deeper, narrower grooves while those with higher lofts (54 to 60 degrees) are wider.
