It’s the look on the new Vivid golf balls from Volvik that immediately stands out. The matte finishes. The bright colors, from pink and purple to orange, blue and green. And the models that come emblazoned with images of Marvel characters such as the Hulk, Thor and Spider-Man.
But company officials are quick to point out that Vivid is much more than a novelty product – and quick to cite the attributes of this three-piece “performance” ball with the ionomer cover and 75 compression. Such as the added distance that comes from the new “energy core.” The mid to high ball-flight trajectory that Vivid promotes. The lower spin it produces on balls hit with the driver, and the higher spin that is imparted on wedge shots.
“We have reverse-engineered the core and made it easier to compress the ball at impact, which increases velocity and distance,” says Wes Whittingham, vice president of sales at Volvik. “And the mantle layer works to create more friction across the face of an iron, for more spin on approaches and those balls hit around the green, and to lay on the face of a driver for a fraction of a second longer to produce less spin on tee shots.”
