In announcing Tour X shoes, FootJoy technicians say the goal of development was a product that “works to redirect and funnel power by ensuring balance and a stable foundation through the golf swing.” They believe that has been accomplished through a combination of tour-proven technologies that, in their words, provide “max stability, max control and max comfort.”
Max stability comes from a FJ Power Plate midsole/outsole system that features a full TPU layer with nine LaunchPods. As for max control, that is achieved through a FJ PowerStrap system that utilizes a molded TPU strap with reinforced PowerEyelets so that players can “pull tight and lock down” for a more stable and balanced foundation.
Then, there is max comfort, which comes from the use of an OrthoLite Impressions FitBed. That piece comprises two densities of foam – an Open Cell PU foam, which is designed to maintain its mechanical properties and cushion throughout its life cycle, and an Impressions foam that takes an impression of a player’s foot, creating in the process a custom fit.
In addition, Tour X shoes boast a 3D Molded collar, a Tour-Spec Stretch tongue and fully waterproof uppers made of Chromoskin leather by Pittards of England.
“This is a powerful shoe with a strong, stable foundation that allows me to max out my swing speed while staying locked to the ground,” says PGA Tour professional Kevin Kisner.
And his sentiments for the new Tour X are matched in many ways by Rafa Cabrera-Bello of Spain, who adds: “This (shoe) gives me everything I want, athletic style, incredible comfort and the stability I need in my footwear.”
