David Glod, the president of Tour Edge and the company’s master club designer, says his new Exotics EXS 220 driver features “state-of-the-art, game-enhancing innovations that vastly improve upon” the version his company released in autumn 2018.
One of those advances is what the company calls Diamond Face technology, in which 42 thick and thin “mini-trampolines” are placed behind the clubface to produce a larger sweet spot as well as a hotter face while also reducing spin. The result, Glod says, is faster ball speeds and better performance on off-center hits.
In addition, the employment of Triple Carbon Fiber technology on the crown and in the heel/toe areas of the sole has enabled him to reposition weight in the clubhead and elevate the moment of inertia for greater forgiveness. An adjustable back weight was designed to help in that regard as well, as was the use of lighter, lower-density titanium in the clubface.
To augment acoustics in these sticks, which have an elongated, face-to-back shape, the technicians placed a sound diffusion bar inside the clubhead.
Exotics EXS 220 drivers are being offered in lofts of 9.5, 10.5 and 12 degrees for right-handed players and 10.5 degrees for lefties, with an adjustable hosel that allows the drivers to be fine-tuned plus or minus 2 degrees up and down.
