Last week, the European Tour announced the postponement of two more tournaments while canceling another due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
The tour postponed the Estrella Damm N.A. AndalucÃa Masters, which was set to take place April 30-May 3 at Real Golf Club Valderrama in Sotogrande, Spain, and the Made in Denmark, scheduled for May 21-24 at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort in Farsø.
The tour also cancelled the GolfSixes Cascais tournament. It was set to take place May 9-10 at Oitavos Dunes in Cascais, Portugal.
“We will continue to monitor this global situation in relation to coronavirus and evaluate its impact on all our tournaments, with public health and well-being our absolute priority,†European Tour chief executive officer Keith Pelley said in a statement last Thursday. “Discussions regarding the possible rescheduling of all postponed tournaments are ongoing and we remain hopeful of European Tour action resuming in Ireland at the end of May.â€
Earlier last week, the tour announced the suspension of ticket and hospitality sales for all 2020 tournaments that it promotes until further notice.
“This is a temporary measure, but one we feel is proportionate in the current circumstances,†Pelley said in a statement. “If there are any changes to the status of any of our tournaments, we will communicate this to you in due course.â€
The European Tour has postponed six of its tournaments and canceled two as a result of the pandemic. Three other tournaments that appear on the tour’s schedule – the Masters and PGA Championship (postponed) and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play (cancelled) – likewise have been affected.
