She’s known more for her Instagram posts than her on-course performances but China’s Muni He is proving she has game to go with her social-media following. He (above) fired a 9-under-par total for four rounds at Pinehurst No. 6 last week to take a two-stroke lead into the second week of LPGA Q-Series.
He, a talented junior player who turned pro after her freshman year at the University of Southern California, earned her card for 2019 but made the cut in only eight starts as a rookie. Her best finish was a tie for 27th at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, a team event she played with P.K. Kongkraphan. On her own, her best finish was a tie for 35th at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open.
He won once on the Symetra Tour in 2018. That came at the inaugural Prasco Charity Championship at TPC River’s Bend in Cincinnati.
“I think it's pretty similar,” He said of drawing on that winning experience. “But because we're here (at Q-Series) for two weeks instead of just four (rounds) it’s very important for me to keep reminding myself like, ‘Hey, be patient and pace yourself,’ because we have so much golf left. When we start to play poorly, at least for me, I can tend to rush things and feel like I'm running out of time.”
In its second year, Q-Series consists of two 72-hole events played in consecutive weeks with the aggregate for all 144 holes counting toward qualifying. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina sponsors Q-Series, which is played at Pinehurst No. 6 and No. 9. A cut is made in the after the sixth round and a purse of $150,000 is distributed among those who make the cut. But more importantly, players who finish first through T45 earn their LPGA Tour cards with varying degrees of status. Those who finish outside the top 20 also receive Symetra Tour membership.
